Software Developer

Symplectic is a leading developer of research information management systems and its flagship product Elements is used by thousands of researchers based in research institutions across the globe. We are looking for an outstanding individual interested in object-oriented design and enterprise application development to join the company’s development team.

With an open-plan office in King’s Cross, our workspace is light and modern, and with a collaborative working environment you’ll find yourself working with and learning from the whole team. Solving complex problems and keeping our clients happy is what we do best, and we’d like someone that will help us maintain these high standards.

About You

We’re looking for someone with excellent academic results in any scientific or technical subject – but not necessarily computer science. A relevant degree would be advantageous, but otherwise if there is evidence you can show us of your excellent analytical problem-solving skills, we’d be willing to consider you for the position. You should also have superb communication skills and written English, be eager to share your ideas and learn from others, and take pride in producing high quality work.

About The Role

From the outset, this role will involve learning. Professional C# programming will be the backbone of your daily work. You’ll be surrounded by talented people who’ve gone through the same with us already – you’ll have a diverse, highly experienced, and very friendly team to call on for help and mentoring (which you can see more of on our About Us & Careers page). Apart from C#, we’ll want you to become fluent in SQL, HTML and JavaScript too. Ultimately you’ll be working towards writing fully interactive web pages, from the SQL back-end, through to the HTML / JavaScript front-end. You are likely to see your code used by our clients within a few months of arriving. We are proud to say these include the top research institutions on the planet.

Through mentoring by senior members of the development team and in response to your own aptitudes and strengths, this role will present you with plenty of opportunities for early responsibility. With exposure to a wide range of technologies, and opportunities for growth into areas such as application architecture, research and development, and client relationship and team management, this job represents an exciting and rewarding beginning to a career in professional programming.

Salary: Competitive, based on experience.

Please note, all candidates must be able to demonstrate the right to live and work in the UK prior to any formal offer of employment.
